We are aiming to have about 10 families for this group. It's unlikely every family will be able to join us for every meeting but hoping to have around 5 or 6 each time.

Like a book club, I think it would be great for each family to pick a location or nature idea for at least 1 of the meeting dates (I'll still take care of the planning). That way everyone gets to share their own favorite nature experiences with the group. My goal is to have a schedule by the the first meeting so everybody knows the dates and what to expect so please email me or post preferences asap.

Where: Location TBA
When: Day, Date, and Time

What to Bring:
  • Water
  • A nature notebook (either blank white pages to put in a 3 ring binder or choose your own book for our adventures)
  • Pencils

What We'll Do:
  • will vary according to the location but the emphasis will be on free exploration and discovery, following the children's lead whilst actively engaging and supporting their experiences.
A seriously easy assignment:
  • If we were starting a book club, I'd ask you to come with 2 book suggestions for us to read during the year. Instead, I'm asking you to suggest some nature ideas you'd like to experience with the group. It can be as simple as: 1) sunflowers and 2) birdwatching. Or 1) __ Nature Centre and 2) Watch the sunset. SIMPLE!
  • GIVE THE KIDS THE LEAD. Make sure they are the ones directing your choices. Of course, you can be in charge of the details - but if they want to have a butterfly day then it's their idea and we can figure it out. It doesn't need to be fully thought out and we can always change our minds, but it will at least be something to put on the schedule.
  • Think about it and bring your brainstorming to the first meeting. Do your kids want to go tidepooling, hiking someplace new, share one of your favorite nature places with the group, focus on sticks and rocks, build a sandcastle, do a community service, plant something in a garden . . . ? We're up for anything!!
Thanks for wanting to get out and explore. I think this is going to be REALLY fun!
